The 2011 Marple Newtown season came to a close on Friday evening, as the visiting Strath Haven Panthers topped the Tigers 31-7.  The game marked the third playoff appearance in school history for the Tigers.
Strath Haven scored first to take an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter.  The lead was extended to 12-0 after the Tigers turned the ball over on a punt attempt.
Marple Newtown battled back, as Jamie Ridinger hit Nick Ciarrocchi on a touchdown pass to cut the lead to 12-7.  Ciarrocchi’s catch came on a fourth-and-four, and the senior dashed through the Panthers secondary and extened the ball over the pylon to cap the Tigers scoring drive.
Strath Haven took a 18-7 lead into halftime, and the Tigers could not close the gap.  The Panthers scored late in the third quarter and again late in the fourth quarter to put the Tigers away.
