Freshmen stay unbeaten with win against Harriton

Oct 14, 2012

The Tigers defense continued to put points on the board as they scored a safety in their contest against the Harriton Rams. Having kept the Rams off the board all game and allowing only a couple first downs, Rich Alimonti was able to contain the Rams’ quarterback long enough for a two point safety.  The Rams were fortunate the play was blown dead in the end-zone before Alimonti stripped the ball and Jake Franks recovered for the apparent touchdown; however, the officials ruled the play a safety.

Defensively, Travis Windle had a pick with a long return deep into Rams territory which led to a Tigers touch down.  Despite heavy winds, Kyle Kelly had a good day kicking and punting to keep a long field in front of the Rams offense. Kelly also spent the majority of the day controlling the line of scrimmage.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers were able to score on their first possession on an Abel Hoff run. The drive lasted 7 plays and covered 64 yards. The Tigers’ second touchdown would come in the second quarter again off a Hoff carry and capped by the DiCamillo PAT.

Late in the first half, Marcus Weathers would hook up with tight end Gino DiCamillo for a 22 yard touchdown strike followed by DiCamillo’s PAT that took the Tigers into halftime up 20 – 0.

The second half found the Tigers unable to cash in after a 40 yard touchdown run was called back on a suspicious illegal block in the back call. The Tigers would go on to attempt their first field goal in Coach Carotenuto’s tenure as the Tigers Coach.

In the post game interview Coach Carotenuto said, “I would kick it again without question. The kid (Gino DiCamillo) has a big heart and lives for big moments.” Although Carotenuto tells his team that there are no reporters, cameras, or statistics kept for the game, he sticks by his statement.

The Tigers move to 5-0 on the season with the 22-0 victory and face a tough Garnet Valley team next week (Thursday, 3:45P at MN).
