NEWTOWN SQUARE – For the first time in 38 years, the Marple Newtown football program is undefeated after five games.

Sophomore Anthony Paoletti threw three touchdown passes as the Tigers cruised to a 40-0 victory over Lower Merion Saturday afternoon at Crozer-Keystone Stadium.

It’s a historic start for coach Chris Gicking and his players. The Tigers haven’t been 5-0 since 1977, when they last captured the Central League championship.

A safety and 31-yard field goal by George Lambritsios gave the Tigers (5-0, 3-0 Central League) a 5-0 lead after one quarter.

Paoletti began to find his groove in the second quarter. He hooked up with All-Delco Abel Hoff on an 8-yard scoring pass to give the Tigers a 12-0 advantage.

Paoletti and Hoff connected on a 26-yard TD pass in the third quarter. Later in the period, Hoff added a 4-yard scoring scamper to make it 26-0.

In the fourth quarter, Paoletti found wide receiver Marcus Weathers for his third and final TD pass of the game. Matt Racine put the finishing touches on an impressive win by the Tigers with a two-yard touchdown run late.
