NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – Tonight marked another example of how strong this Marple Newtown Tigers football team can be. The Tigers beat the Strath Haven Panthers by a score of 14-7. This game erased the memory of last years defeat by the Panthers of 36-0. This game was immediately different as the Tigers got on the board right off the bat. The Tigers won the toss and elected to recieve the ball and that proved to be the best decision possible.
Running back Ryan White recieved the kickoff and took it back 92 yards for a fantastic touchdown. The blocking was absolutely beautiful on the kick return and Ryan White followed them all the way up. He had one last defender to beat and made a gorgeous spin move around the defender to reach the endzone. This was the Tigers first kick-off return for a touchdown on the season. Showing that Ryan White has become this offense go-to-guy when they need a spark off a big play. This touchdown immediately got rid of the pressure and the zero from last year.
The Tigers continued to dominate on the ground, almost running the ball at-will. Ryan Duffy continued his play as the feature back in the offense. He scored a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The Panthers got back into the game at the end to make it a little interesting as Bryan Downs passed to Patrick Fisher for a 27-yard touchdown. It proved too little too late for the Panthers as the Tigers recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock on the final plays of the game.
This was a dominating win in the Central Athletic League and continued to show how good this Tigers offense and defense can be. The team will play Garnet Valley next week at Harry Harvey stadium, it is a 6:30 start so be sure to show up earlier than normal.
