The JV edition of the Fightin’ Tigers concluded their season on Monday against Radnor.  The JV Tigers certainly gave Marple Newtown fans reason to look forward to the future, finishing with a 5-0-2 record on the year.
Juniors and sophomores who do not see significant playing time at the Varsity level hone their skills during the JV contests.  The Tiger coaching staff focuses on using the games to keep everyone involved, promote sportsmanship, and continue to teach the Tiger way of football to the student-athletes.
Coach Ray Gionta reflected on the 2009 JV season, “It has been a very successful season; it was the best JV year since I have been the Head Coach at MNHS.  The kids have done a great job during the JV games and have been a stellar group on the practice field.  They have consistently given us a great effort at practice, their attendance has been good.  The future looks bright.”
Gionta added, “I am very impressed with the dedication level of the sophomore class.  They attend BFS morning workouts on a regular basis.  I can’t say enought positive things about this terrific group of kids.”
Congratulations to Coaches Mike Doyle and Gary Molineux and the Tiger JV players for a successful 2009 campaign.
