Kevan Strigle, Adam Fender, Carl Kasarsky and Kevin Johnson represented Marple Newtown at the 34th annual Hero Bowl at Widener University on June 3. The Hero Bowl benefits the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County, which provides scholarship assistance to the children of police officers, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel who have died in the line of duty.
Strigle contributed on the offensive side of the ball at tackle. Kasarsky played at linebacker at Kevin Johnson played defensive end for the first time in his career. Adam Fender handled the kicking duties, scoring on an extra-point and making a solo tackle on the game’s opening kickoff.
Marple Newtown has a rich history in the Hero Bowl. Coach Gionta served as Head Coach of the West in 2005 (17-14 victory). The Tigers have had two players named MVP of the game: Brandon Gose (2001 – offense) and Jake Gallagher (2005 – offense).
