MN visits Academy Park in 2012 opener

The Marple Newtown Tigers will travel to Sharon Hill on Friday night, to take on the Knights of Academy Park.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7P.

From the Delaware County Daily Times:

In 2011 the Knights enjoyed their best season in school history, winning eight games, including their first district title contest. The Tigers struggled down the stretch after a 6-1 start, losing three of their final four games.

The Tigers are playing for more than just a 1-0 start to the season. Longtime coach Ray Gionta is going for his 58th career victory as Tigers coach, which would make him the winningest coach in school history.

Both teams were hurt by graduation, combining to lose three All-Delco players from a year ago. Senior Joe Vegso, a stellar linebacker, and junior Tom Davis could share quarterback duties for the Tigers. The Knights, on the other hand, have returning starter Tyler Street back behind center.
