Tigers Celebrate 2009 with Banquet

The Tigers celebrated the 2009 football season with the annual year-end banquet at Paxon Hollow Country Club on Sunday, January 31.  The banquet, organized by the Booster Club, focuses on the accomplishments of the team and individual players.
The 2009 award receipients include:
George Schmitt Defensive MVP – Carl Kasarsky
Steve Coyne Special Teams MVP – Adam Fender
Bill Maas Outstanding Lineman – Kevan Strigle
Most Improved Player – Vince Christiana
Chris Gicking Offensive MVP – Ryan White
Jim Smith Most Dedicated Player – Brian Kelly
Brian Peoples Memorial Scholarship – Kevan Strigle
Bob Kenig Coaches Award – Kevin Johnson
The Most Dedicated Player Award was named in honor of former coach and Athletic Director, Jim Smith.  Smith, who holds the Marple Newtown record for most victories as a head coach with 57, spoke about the importance of dedication and committment.  He presented Coach Ray Gionta with a unique Tiger necktie, given to him by a former student.
Outgoing Captains Kevan Strigle and Kevin Johnson addressed the crowd, thanking their parents, coaches and teammates for a memorable season.  Coach Ray Gionta and Defensive Coordinator Lou D’Alonzo also addressed the crowd, recapping the Tigers 2009 campaign.
